Morocco is an extraordinary family destination — vivid, safe, affordable, and full of experiences that genuinely captivate children and adults alike. The key is choosing the right places and the right pace.
Agadir: The Easiest Family Base
Agadir is Morocco’s most family-friendly city. The beach is long, sandy and sheltered; the water is warm and calmer than further north; the resort infrastructure — pools, kids’ clubs, beach restaurants — is the best in the country. It’s not the most atmospheric city in Morocco, but as a base for family relaxation combined with day trips, it works exceptionally well.
The Sahara: Children’s Dream
Children are almost universally thrilled by the Sahara. The camel trek, the sand dunes to roll down, the campfire, the stars — everything about the desert experience is scaled perfectly for young imaginations. Choose a camp with proper beds and a private bathroom. The camel ride to camp should be around 45 minutes — manageable for most children over 5.
Marrakech: Overwhelming but Magical
Marrakech with children requires planning. The medina is chaotic and the heat can be punishing in summer. But the Menara Gardens offer space to run, the Jardin Majorelle is beautiful and calm, and Jemaa el-Fna’s evening spectacle — acrobats, storytellers, musicians — is a genuine children’s theatre on a massive scale.
Oualidia: Perfect for Young Swimmers
The protected lagoon at Oualidia is ideal for families with young children who want to swim safely. The water is calm, warm and shallow near the shore. The overall pace of Oualidia — relaxed, unhurried, beautiful — makes it one of the best family spots on the Atlantic coast.
Practical Tips
Visit in spring (March–May) or autumn (September–November) — summer temperatures in inland cities and the desert are too extreme for young children. Carry water constantly. Most Moroccan restaurants are genuinely welcoming to families; children are adored and accommodated without fuss.
