Rapid Antigen Tests: Companies hit back after Aussies were warned to throw out RATS

Rapid antigen test suppliers have hit back at claims that people should throw out their testing kits because they were supposedly inaccurate at detecting new variants of Covid-19.

Pathology Technology Australia chief executive Dean Whiting said there was ‘fearmongering’ that the tests were ineffective on Omicron sub-variants and that the PTA was ‘yet to see any evidence that their performance has been impacted’. 

He said erroneous results arose often from users not following the instructions properly, and that there needed to be widespread public education campaigns.

The peak body for rapid antigen test manufacturers and suppliers has said there is no evidence that RAT test were ineffective against new Omicron sub-variants (file image)
