Sydney weather: NSW flood crisis extends to Central Coast, Budgewoi and Tuggerah Lakes ‘high danger’

NSW’s latest flood crisis has worsened with thousands of residents of the state’s Central Coast ordered to evacuate their homes immediately.

Torrential rain and powerful winds have battered greater Sydney for a fourth consecutive day with a fresh warning the Budgewoi and Tuggerah Lakes areas are now considered ‘high danger’ – with 19 suburbs at risk. 

Streets have turned into rivers with boats and kayaks the only way of getting in and out of some suburbs which have already been cut off.

A major flood level of 1.6m is expected at Long Jetty on Tuesday night with further rises possible.

‘Once floodwater passes 1.50 metres on the Long Jetty (The Entrance) gauge at Tuggerah and Budgewoi Lakes, roads will begin to close,’ the SES warned on Tuesday afternoon.
