US synchronized swimming star who fainted in Budapest pool does not rule out competing TODAY

US synchronized swimmer Anita Alvarez has described ‘not feeling too great’ before she fainted in a Budapest pool but has refused to rule out competing today. 

Alvarez, 25, also did not rule out competing in the World Championship team free final today at 3pm (10am ET), just 48 hours after her coach Andrea Fuentes dived into the water to save her life. 

She has now opened up on her ordeal during an interview to NBC Nightly News as she hailed her coach a hero.

She said: ‘I mean I say this all the time to her and to other people, [I’m] just so grateful to have her as a coach.

‘When I found out she was coming to be our coach, it was like, I didn’t believe it.’ On the incident, she said: ‘I remember feeling like it was a really great performance.
