New Jersey’s Department of Health said that the first probable case of the virus was confirmed following a test conducted on Saturday.
The monkeypox sample was taken in Jersey City, according to the city’s official social media account, and processed at a public health laboratory.
It will be sent to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for confirmation.
The case will bring the total number of confirmed cases across America to 114 in 22 states, including the District of Colombia.
‘The NJ Health Dept has confirmed the first case of monkey pox in Jersey City,’ the city’s Instagram account announced. Our health officials are working closely with the CDC.’
The state health department provided further details, confirming it had directed the individual to isolate at home.
