Germany’s Alexander Zverev has been kicked out of the Mexican Open in Acapulco for ‘unsportsmanlike conduct’ after lashing out at an umpire following a doubles defeat.
Zverev, who was partnering Brazilian tennis player Marcelo Melo, came dangerously close to hitting the umpire when he repeatedly assaulted the official’s chair with his racquet after a 6-2, 4-6, 10-6 defeat by Lloyd Glasspool and Harri Heliovaara.
It is just the latest controversy to engulf Zverev – he remains under investigation by the ATP following allegations of domestic abuse from his ex-girlfriend Olga Sharypova.
After the four players had shaken hands at the net at the end of their match in Acapulco, Zverev walked back to his chair, only to make three dangerous swipes inches from the legs and feet of the chair…
