Doctors warn against dangerous TikTok trend that encourages using tanning nasal spray


In September, Amy Murphy,  then 24, from Barrhead, East Renfrewshire, was left with a facial scar after an illegal nasal spray led to a terrifying cancer scare.

The dog groomer had been using tanning beds for years before trying Melanotan nasal sprays in December 2020.

But months after she spotted a mole on her skin, and her GP referred her to the Queen Elizabeth University hospital. 

A a biopsy confirmed she had a melanoma in situ – where cancer cells are present in the top layer of skin.

She told the Sun: ‘I’ve never bothered about the risks before, it’s stupid.

‘But I’m not blaming the nasal spray entirely. It’s a combination of that, sunbeds, sitting in the sun and oils.
