Parents of murdered SUNY student, 21, say she was in the ‘wrong place at the wrong time’ when she was shot dead by man, 31, who killed her outside music hall where she practiced cello

  • Beth Howell, 21, was shot on Friday by Michael J. Snow, 31, in Potsdam 
  • It remains unclear if they knew each other – her parents say they believe she was in the wrong place at the wrong time
  • Snow has not told police what his motive was or if he even knew Beth 
  • He is believed to live alone in nearby Massena, around 23 miles from SUNY 
  • Snow’s mother Paula died ‘unexpectedly’ in 2019 and it’s unclear if he is close with the rest of his family
  • Police will not say if he is known to them or if he suffers mental health problems
