Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s ‘Tax the Rich’ couture gown is still causing quite a stir on Capitol Hill.
Rep. Jim Banks, R-Indiana, and Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., went tit for tat on Twitter, where Banks ended up telling Swalwell: ‘Only one of us has a thing for communist women.’
Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., donned a white gown emblazoned with ‘Tax the Rich’ on the back on Monday to the Met Gala, one of the nation’s most lavish displays of elitism and excess. Banks took note, tweeting about the gown three times.
‘For Republicans, AOC is the gift that keeps on giving,’ the congressman wrote in one tweet.
‘Tax AOC’s dress!’ he wrote in another tweet.
‘Last night was symbolic of how the Democrat party governs. The lowly help are forced to mask while the elites party and laugh at you,’ he wrote in another, along with Ocasio-Cortez in her ‘Tax the Rich’ dress and Rep. Carolyn Maloney in a dress bearing the phrase, ‘Equal rights for women.’ Behind Maloney was a group of gala staff, all fully masked. Maloney and Ocasio-Cortez did not wear masks at the event.
‘3 tweets about @aoc’s dress? Do you need a restraining order?’ Swalwell clapped back.
‘Sorry Eric, only one of us has a thing for communist women,’ Banks replied.
After that, he retweeted a mock-up of the AOC dress where ‘Tax the Rich’ was replaced with ‘Eric Swalwell slept with a CCP spy.’
Swalwell for years had a relationship with Christine Fang – or Fang Fang, before cutting ties in 2015 after he was tipped off by the intelligence community that she was a Chinese agent.
Fang fled the country as the FBI investigated her and her infiltration efforts which also saw her become friendly with other California politicians and have sex with two mayors from the midwest.
Swalwell has refused to confirm or deny sleeping with Fang.
Some Republicans deemed AOC’s Monday debut on the red carpet ‘beyond parody.
The 31-year-old socialist firebrand attended the event with her boyfriend Riley Roberts, both of whom attended as ‘guests’ of the Met.
‘The Met Gala is seen as elite and inaccessible…As a working class woman, [I] wanted to enjoy the event but also break the fourth wall and challenge the industry,’ she proudly told Vogue at the event.
On Tuesday morning, AOC boasted about the surge in Google searches for the words ‘tax the rich’.
She wrote on Instagram: ‘Surge in people looking up and discussing our f****d up tax code is and how we fix it so we can fund childcare, healthcare, climate action and student loan forgiveness for all? Aurora James understood the assignment.’
She was met by a wave of criticism from not only the right but also some leftists for rubbing elbows with the rich and famous at an event costing more than the yearly salary of many Americans.

The Office of Congressional Ethics was asked by a conservative group to launch an investigation of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for accepting free tickets to Monday’s Met Gala, where she wore a custom gown that said ‘Tax the Rich’

She didn’t wear a mask, like many of the other guests.
The event was for fully vaccinated guests only but the celebrities in attendance – who regularly preach online about COVID rules – ignored the guidance of the CDC and liberal states like California, where masks are recommended indoors regardless of vaccination status.
In a proud Instagram post about the event and her choice of outfit, AOC said: ‘The medium is the message. Proud to work with Aurora James as a sustainably focused, Black woman immigrant designer who went from starting her dream Brother Vellies at a flea market in Brooklyn to winning the CDFA against all odds – and then work together to kick open the doors at the Met. The time is now for childcare, healthcare, and climate action for all. Tax the Rich.
‘And yes, BEFORE anybody starts wilding out – NYC elected officials are regularly invited to and attend the Met due to our responsibilities in overseeing our city’s cultural institutions that serve the public.
‘I was one of several in attendance. Dress is borrowed via Brother Vellies.’
AOC has been vocal in the past about her stance on taxing millionaires.
In 2019 she advocated to raising taxes of to 70percent for the wealthy in order to fund measures against climate change.
