Tragedy as 13-year-old dies after car he was DRIVING rolled and burst into flames

  • A 13-year-old boy has died after rolling a car in Bowen in north Queensland 
  • His 14-year-old passenger was treated at the scene and was sent to hospital
  • The vehicle is alleged to have been stolen from nearby town Sarina

Tragedy has struck a small North Queensland town as a 13-year-old boy has died after rolling a car with the vehicle catching on fire.

The single vehicle crash took place in Bowen at about 6.45am on Wednesday.

The car was allegedly stolen from Sarina, a nearby town at about 4am.

A 14-year-old passenger was treated at the scene by members of the public before emergency crews arrived.

The passenger was admitted to hospital for treatment of serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

Forensic Crash Unit, Child Protection Investigation Unit and CIB investigations currently ongoing.

Anyone near the area with information or dashcam footage is being urged to contact police.
